indolent i am

How indolent I am!! It’s been a spate of days since last renewal. What am I doing these days? All banal routines with some trivias interposed. Though I have to define my recent days this way, I am quite satisfied, for the impending cloudburst still needs some time to come. Propitious or ominous? Who cares right now?
So many new words that I have gone through are waiting for me to pick them up again, while my nature subdued the inner outcry, so that I was found to loll, sprawl, loiter, and to idle time away by whatever means except seating myself peacefully in the library. I know I have to be temperate and sober, but I am wondering how much time is needed to disguise myself and not be to myself, in which case, I can step out and espy myself from another perspective, and most importantly, get aspired. I might be too merciless and munificent.
These three days, I watched four movies, each of which is a pregnant lesson for me, either didactic or instructive. In fact, we see something in everything. In other words, everything is worth our observation and absorption to some extent.
The Da Vinci Code
Unlike others, I found little fallacies in that movie, and yet I found it fabulous and therefore meritorious. Any technical plaudit is left to those critics, while my own reflection is what I want to share with you. Firstly, I never knew that the Christian world could be challenged this way, directly and acerbically into its root. What would happen if our spiritual foundation was shaken? I guess it would be a grave crisis that would lead to the transformation and reshaping of the temporal secular world. There raised my second question: is the world suffering from this kind of crisis? I don’t think the ideas conveyed in the book or the movie derived from nothing, so there must be some phenomena that present this side of our spirits. How important is faith for us? I strongly believe that faith leads the way. Faith makes people intrepid and life less insipid. (We see the guy in the movie scourging himself for the suffering of Jesus, which may be unbelievable for most of us.) However, people are losing faith, or even worse they never have faith. I can’t wait to see what the world will be like 50 years later.

The Music Box (理发师)
The English and Chinese names are not equivalent to each other. Perhaps to call it “The Barber” would not sound intriguing to foreign audience. It is about the life of a barber who stuck to his love all his life, his box and his girl. Stories happened from 1930s to 1950s in mainland China, which seems appealing to many writers. Wherever he went, the barber would take his box in which he kept a phonograph and tool for his work, and those were all he had. Being a commonplace barber, a murderer, a high-ranked official in the Kuomintang party, and a prisoner in the desert, he tasted almost everything of a man, but he never lost his faith. In the end of the movie, when the weather-beaten and crippled barber met his lover who came a long way so see him after five years of separation, I suddenly realized that there is something in this world will last forever when you have your own belief, while something against your faith, however resplendent, will abandon you sooner or later.
In Her Shoes
I hate Chinese translation of the name, “to wear her high-heel shoes secretly”, which sounds so misleading. I think it’s a didactic movie, and I learn that only when you open your heart, can you be accepted. While in some cases, when people are in someone else’ shoes, they are faced with a dilemma that they don’t know whether they should present their inside to the third person they really care. We all have secrets, but to whom we should speak our heart?

Garfield 2: A Tale of Two Kitties
It was funny, but I prefer Garfield 1. I don’t know when my enthusiasm for cartoons was resumed. It is cool, anyway. The fat cat is so pompous and lazy, and sometimes ingenious. What if I live my life like him? …
